Caregivers often feel forgotten in the national discourse, both by politicians and by a system that fails to see how the barriers to voting — long lines, incompatible hours and a massive demand on their time to make sense of it all — are even higher for the people who already feel as if there aren’t enough hours in the day."
We’re thrilled to share that Politisit has been highlighted in a recent article by Chabeli Carrazana, focusing on the vital role of caregivers and single moms in the 2024 election. As a nonprofit dedicated to empowering underrepresented voices, we believe that every individual deserves the tools and support to make their voices heard.
In the article, our innovative solutions for increasing voter engagement among these key demographics are showcased. By removing the barrier of childcare, we aim to ensure that all caregivers have the opportunity to participate in shaping their communities and the future of our nation.
To alleviate the problem, Politisit is launching a North Carolina Childcare for Voters Pilot Program, an industry-first initiative aimed at “removing financial barriers to voting by reimbursing childcare expenses for parents and caregivers while they vote.”
“We just want to make it as easy as possible for folks,” Teixeira explained.
Politisit has announced their hire of their first Executive Director, Paige Hook. Hook achieved her Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology from Western Oregon University.
Politisit, a nonpartisan nonprofit, is teaming up with childcare facilities in Florida and Texas to ensure parents are able to vote in the 2020 Election. Making sure every eligible voter can vote is the bedrock of democracy. The cost of childcare can be a barrier to parents voting, though, especially when a long line is expected.
At Politisit, we believe civic engagement can change communities, our nation and the world. We also value learning from our history about barriers to civic participation and voting.
We wanted to take a moment to tell you that we appreciate all you are doing in this unprecedented time. You have done amazing things in the face of these uncertain and ever-changing conditions. Thank you.
